MEET SARAh
SARAH SCHMIDT, founder of “FAITH, FAMILY & LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS,” retired as a Detective Sergeant with the Sterling Police Department in Illinois on February 28, 2019. Sarah and her husband Kris, a retired Sergeant with the Whiteside County Sheriff's Office in Illinois, relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska, in March 2022.
Sarah always felt more needed to be done to help law enforcement officers and their families. The answers Sarah was looking for were discovered three years after she retired from her law enforcement career.

FUN FACT
Unexpectedly, Sarah was offered a position as executive administrator for the large Christian church they attend in Fairbanks, Alaska. At the end of the first day, she quit because she didn't feel deserving of the position.

Sarah still harbored some trauma from working in a law enforcement career. And, she had not always made the best decisions in her personal family life, either.

Sarah felt God was calling her to do something in Alaska, but she had no idea what that was. Was it ministry? After talking to a couple of the pastors at the church the next day, Sarah decided not to quit the job and worked at the church until September 2023.

The experiences Sarah had at the church taught her many things.
-
God loves us, forgives us, heals us, and will use our life experiences to help others.
-
In our law enforcement careers, we can't fight evil alone. We need a consistent relationship with God to help us fight this battle. Without God, we will struggle.
-
We are all created for a purpose.
When working at the church, Sarah also discovered that ministry and law enforcement are very similar professions. Both have the mission of conquering evil and bringing good to the lives of others.

The difference is that the law enforcement profession is called to bring order to society. Similar to the military in combat, this calling can bring with it trauma, family hardships, and perhaps even questioning if God is real in the midst of evil in this world.

Ultimately, law enforcement officers are called to protect others from evil. We can't do this career alone.
